Activities at Redeemer Lutheran Church

Between our Sunday morning worship services, our congregation is busy working at the church and in the community.  Read on to learn more about our Social Ministries and Fellowship Opportunities!

Social Ministries

Habitat for Humanity

Redemer has a long-standing partnership with Habitat for Humanity, an organization that utilizes volunteer labor to build homes for families that could not otherwise afford them.  Interested volunteers may contact Ed or Judy Connelly. Cafe on Vine

Redeemer members serve supper at Cafe on Vine (formerly John Lewis Coffee Shop) on the third Sunday of each month.  We have six teams that each take two months out of the year, and provide food and volunteers to serve at the meal site.  Donations and volunteers are always welcome!  Contact Mary Beth Averweg for more information!

Bettendorf Health Care Center

Redeemer members play bingo with BHCC residents the third Monday of each month.

Bettendorf Food Pantry

Redeemer Lutheran Church has long supported the Bettendorf Food Pantry through donations and volunteer labor.  Each month, our congregation collects a different food item and takes our collection to the panty for hungry families.

Blood Drives

Redeemer Lutheran Church, in cooperation with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, sponsors blood drives twice a year.  Our next blood drive will be held in November, but members can donate at MVRBC anytime and credit it to Redeemer's account!

Support for Soldiers

Redeemer regularly remembers our soldiers serving faithfully overseas.  Each Sunday morning, we offer prayers for their protection and peace.   Our Confirmation students have written letters to soldiers on active duty, and our congregation has sent care packages and DVD's to troops in Iraq.

Food Baskets

Each Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring, Redeemer provides approximately 25 Food Baskets for families in the community that need assistance.

Financial donations are needed to underwrite the cost, which averages around $60. Please place your donation in a white pew envelope and mark it “food baskets” and place it in the offering plate on Sunday. The Social Ministry Committee thanks everyone for their help and support with the project!

Quilting Bee

Seven Redeemer members meet twice monthly to lovingly sew quilts, which are donated to community service organizations, such as Family Resources in Davenport.  To see pictures of the Quilting Bee's most recent presentation of quilts, click here.

World Hunger

The third Sunday of each month is designated as World Hunger Appeal Day.

Caring & Sharing

When a family experiences an illness, birth, death, or hospitalization, volunteers provide meals, drive members to appointments, and assist with household tasks or childcare.

Habitat for Humanity Meals

A committee serves meals to Habitat for Humanity volunteers twice each year. Volunteers are very appreciative of the delicious break in their work day!

Heifer International

Each December, we collect funds to purchase gift animals for families in impoverished countries, so that they may have a source of income.

Meals on Wheels

Each Monday, a team of volunteers picks up meals at the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church for delivery to people who need meals brought to their homes.

Angel Tree

Each Christmas, Redeemer members partner with Humility of Mary to provide Angel Tree gifts to children of low-income families in the community.

Prayer Chain

Redeemer's prayer warriors are always willing to lift up names to the Lord. Please contact Janet Boulund in the church office with your prayer requests.

Fellowship Opportunities

Mini-Churches

If you're looking for a group of like-minded people that are journeying through your stage of life, check out one of our mini-churches! These groups consist of 6-8 individuals / couples that plan events together every 3-4 weeks—all based on the group members' interests and schedules! Contact Janet to find out more!

Breakfast Club

Retiree members of Redeemer Lutheran Church are invited to the Bettendorf Hy-Vee the fourth Wednesday of each month at 8:30 AM for breakfast and fellowship.

New Members Classes

Each March, June, and November, Redeemer offers a New Members Class for individuals and families interested in making Redeemer their church home.

Co-Ed Softball

Many of our members enjoy playing on Redeemer's summer co-ed softball team! From May-September, we pitch & catch at Crow Creek Park one or two weekday evenings, and share a few laughs in the meantime—the best thing is that for our team, no skills are required! We may not be the best team in the league, but we sure have a good time together! Contact Jake Beck or Laura Thompson. to sign up, and view photos
